Proyecto Bridge

Connecting university students across disciplines

Proyecto Bridge

Proyecto Bridge is an interdisciplinary initiative created as the collective dissertation project of the University Leadership School (Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, Madrid). Its mission is to expand the intellectual boundaries of university education by fostering structured dialogue between students from different fields of knowledge.

The project responds to a growing need to complement traditional university curricula with spaces that promote interdisciplinary collaboration, critical thinking, and integral personal formation, preparing students to address complex societal challenges collectively.

#Vision and Principles

Proyecto Bridge is grounded in the belief that many of today’s challenges cannot be understood—or solved—from a single disciplinary perspective. To address this, the project is built upon four core principles:

  • Integral formation of university students beyond technical specialization
  • Dialogue and active participation as central learning tools
  • Methodologies that foster creativity and critical reasoning
  • Multidisciplinary networking across academic domains

These principles are operationalized through carefully designed encounters that emphasize argumentation, listening, and collaborative problem-solving.

#The Concept of a “Bridge”

At the heart of the project are the so-called bridges: moderated encounters between university students from different degrees, centered around topics of shared societal relevance.

Each bridge:

  • Brings together students from distinct academic backgrounds
  • Frames the topic from a transdisciplinary perspective
  • Uses methodologies that encourage structured reasoning, debate, and mutual understanding

The goal is not consensus, but intellectual cross-pollination and the development of a critical, collaborative mindset.

#The First Bridge

As part of the project, a pilot bridge was organized to validate the model and assess its educational value. The inaugural encounter focused on the debate around liberating patents for COVID-19 vaccines, a topic at the intersection of health sciences, law, economics, and ethics.

The event was aimed at university students from:

  • Health sciences
  • Law and economics

The encounter took place at Universidad Miguel Hernández (Alicante, Spain) and received very positive feedback from both students and faculty. The strong reception validated the approach and reinforced the potential of the project as a scalable educational model.

#Outlook

Proyecto Bridge demonstrates how intentional design of interdisciplinary spaces can enrich university education, strengthen critical thinking, and encourage collaboration across traditionally separated domains.

The long-term vision is to continue organizing new bridges, expanding participation, and consolidating a network
